Course Objectives
The primary purpose of this course is to introduce graduate students to in depth discussions of selected topics in Microbiology and Cell Biology. One or two scientific articles relevant to each topic will be assigned for reading. Discussion classes associated with each topic will require the presentation of these articles by students and participation of the remaining students in discussion of the topic. In addition, students will be expected to become proficient in presentations, from the in class presentations described above, and scientific manuscript and literature review preparation from class assignments. Topics will be determined by the interests of the faculty and students and will provide the frame work for scientific discussion.

Required/Recommended Knowledge
This course is available for graduate students in the biological sciences only and as such will assume the basic knowledge gained in an undergraduate biology degree. Non degree seeking graduate students should contact the instructor prior to registration.
