Students should file for degree
candidacy about a year before their planned/assumed graduation date; this
allows sufficient time to iron out any glitches and take care of any oversights.
If you are uncertain as to how
far you have progressed towards the completion of your degree see your advisor
for a Senior Progress Check during the semester that you expect to complete
a total of about 90 credits.
Why
are Degree checks and Progress Reports Necessary?
SAPRs
are a guide used to assess a student's progress, but they are secondary to
a departmental progress and/or degree check. Please be aware that SAPRs often
contain inaccuracies and that you should definitely check your remaining requirements
with your major advisor.
How do I file a
formal Degree Check so I can graduate?
Students in Veterinary Science
and Microbiology should file an application for degree candidacy one year
prior to graduation. You should file your application with Julie Adkins in
Room 211, Forbes Building. A $15 fee will be charged to your Bursar's Office
account. Make an appointment to see your major advisor for a review of your
records and to have any necessary adjustments made. Once the major advisor
has signed the adjustment sheet, you should deliver it (with Student Academic
Progress Report attached) to Forbes 211. The adjustments
will be made in the computer and the paperwork forwarded to Julie Adkins.
Julie will verify that all requirements for graduation will be met once you
complete your final semester coursework. After your final grades come in,
Julie will do a final audit of your records. If you fail to complete your
degree requirements, you will be mailed notification.
In addition to the degree check
for the College and University, we ask that you print out our senior
exit survey and bring it in with you when you come for your degree check
with your advisor.
NOTE: No student will be
able to graduate unless a formal Degree Check procedure has been completed!
